March 21st of each year has been deemed International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The day was created to commemorate the shooting deaths of 69 peaceful demonstrators at an anti-apartheid rally by the hands of police in Sharpesville, South Africa. Among the 69 killed were 10 children. In 1966, six years after the massacre, International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination was proclaimed.
White Supremacists are trying to get a foothold here in the lower mainland. Over the last year The Aryan Guard in Calgary has fallen apart due to resistance, infighting, and the fact that they are idiots. Groups have been looking at moving into areas in the lower mainland, Vancouver, and Vancouver Island.

They are promoting their cause as a celebration of the White Race (which avoids Canada’s Hate Crime laws). In reality they are fascists, neo-nazis, bigots, and racists.

These White Supremacists are holding a rally here in the lower mainland on the 21st as show of International White Pride.
They plan to rally at Braid Skytrain St at noon and march from there.

The Anti-Poverty Committee plans to join other groups in opposition to white supremacist hate groups.

At 10am on March 21st, We will be meeting with other groups at the Safeway parking lot at Broadway & Commercial and we will all move to the Braid Skytrain Station as a group. You can also join the counter-rally at 11am at the Braid Skytrain station.

We want to invite you to come join us in making
this day of the end of racial discrimination mean what it stands for.

No Racism in Vancouver!
No Racism on Coast Salish Territories!
No Racism anywhere!

On July 31st 2009 Vancouver will be hosting the World Police and Fire Games. The games is an international sporting event where police officers, firefighters, customs and correction officers compete against each other in over 65 sporting events. More than 12,000 police officers, corrections officers and firefighters will be in Vancouver for the 10 day event.

The Anti-Poverty Committee is calling for a mobilization against police brutality both locally and internationally, and the violence that the state perpetrates around the world everyday through police and ‘correctional’ facilities. The APC calls on all those individuals and groups who are against police brutality and the everyday terror and violence caused by the various police forces to participate in actions and events during the police and fire games.

The APC will stand to honor those in our community who have been killed, brutalized, and daily harrased by the police and to condemn not only the individual police forces, but the structure that allows them to get away with oppression, intimidation and violence everyday in our communities.

We believe that the police cannot be made accountable, and they will never truly protect those that they purport to, and that police will never make our communities safer, as they continue to harass, target and brutalize poor people, indigenous people, youth, sex trade workers and many others.

The APC is calling for a demonstration during the opening ceremonies of the games on July 31st at 7pm (location TBA). To get involved in the organizing of the demonstration please contact APC (apc@resist.ca). If your organization would like to endorse the event please email the APC. We also encourage other groups to organize around these events and denounce the police and fire games.

Last October six APC members were arrested during a housing demonstration, as they tried to squat the abandoned Burns Block at 16 W. Hastings to draw attention to the ongoing housing crisis in Vancouver, and the fact that hundreds of rooms are empty, as people die on the street.

Three members who were arrested are facing charges of Break and Enter. Their trials will be occurring over two days this week. The 3 accussed and the APC are asking for support and solidarity as they face charges and two days of trial. Supporters are invited to attend any or all of the trials. The exact courtroom has not yet been determined, but supporters will be meeting outside of the courthouse before entering.

NO OLYMPICS ON STOLEN LAND! 2010 HOMES NOW!

Help open an empty building and defend it! Direct action and political confrontation has made the homeless catastrophe into a political crisis. With a year to go until the next municipal elections, now is the time to force the city into making social housing.

LESS TALK MORE SQUATS!

We demand the CANCELLATION OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES! The immediate implementation of the HOMELESS ACTION PLAN! An ANTI-VACANCY BY-LAW to stop the forceful emptying of buildings by slumlords – and as compensation for the destruction the games have brought on poor communities, the BUILDING OF 2010 UNITS OF SOCIAL HOUSING A YEAR UNTIL THERE ARE HOMES FOR ALL!

BECAUSE THE GOVERNMENT REFUSES TO GIVE HOUSING…
WE WILL TAKE IT!

Scrap Civil City! Implement Homeless Action Plan! Enact Housing Moratorium! Reinvest Olympic Slush Fund! Cancel 2010!

The NPA is a failed political party. Their legacy is a brutal assault on poor people with women, indigenous people and racialized communities as the primary targets. Homelessness has increased on mass, as has the policing of poverty. The NPA’s political vision is social cleansing and they conduct their brutal business with no real significant ‘official’ opposition. We the people are defending ourselves and fighting back!

Join us at this demonstration and oppose NPA oppression!

Wednesday, Feb. 28th
12:00 Noon
620 W. Pender

The Anti-Poverty Committee calls on supporters to assist in physically defending the Piccadilly Hotel. Please support tenants who refuse to be illegally thrown out of their home by preventing city workers to enter the
building in order to close it.

The APC supports all the other organizations efforts in keeping the building open. But we do believe the capitalist/colonial legal system has failed the people and direct action is needed to protect people’s homes
from illegal demolition.

We call on allies to stand in solidarity with friends and comrades and protest this Olympic closure, but we want the city and the police to understand that the APC will do whatever is reasonably necessary to keep these buildings open. If they try to close it down, we will fight them
back!
